The goal of this part of the class is to introduce you to how to analyze and optimize processes. We will do this by peeking into a discipline called Operations Management.
The reading material - required for the class - is represented by the slides below.
There are two excellent online courses offered by Coursera, the content of this course is inspired by Module 2 of the course by Anand.
These online courses are available for free, and are an excellent way to go more in depth on these concepts.
1.Suppose that 200 persons per hour enter the company’s cafeteria and each person spends an average of 45 minutes having lunch, how many seats do we need?
2. If 10 people on average are waiting in line for sandwiches at Mc Donald’s, and each person is in line for 2 minutes, on average, how many people arrive each hour?
3. Airline check-in data indicate that from 8 to 9am 280 passengers checked in.
Airport operations reports that on average, 40 people were waiting to check in.
How long did the average passenger have to wait?
