Linksys

The router shown here is a Linksys WRT54G, but this will probably be very similar for any Linksys Router.

(1) Open your web browser and go to the IP address of your router, in this case 192.168.1.1. It will then ask you to enter your username and password

(2) the username is typically admin on Linksys boxes if that is what you have.. I think the default password is blank, or admin as well.

yours may be different. Mine is protected.

(3) then you will enter the main screen. It may look a little different or totally different. you need to view the current status of the router:

(4) So you can see that the IP address that my router has is 99.249.109.185.

This is the address that the outside world sees my router as. The outside world cannot see your computer, just your router.

You can also try the following link that will tell you Your IP Address.

(5) The last thing you need to do is a port forward... so that anyone that contacts your router on port 16713 will have that information forwarded to a specific computer on your local network. It is often under gaming tab.

So you can see in my setup I made an application called DAIDE that routes any information on port 16713 to my computer address 192.168.1.104. That is my actual computer on the local network. So any info that the router sees incoming on port 16713 gets sent to that particular machine.

Anyways... hopefully that helps. If your router happens to be the same or similar to mine (which is a very common router) it may have you up and running in no time. If not the same, you may have to dig in to your own router configuration. But the general idea is that you have to forward specific ports to your machine when 'hosting' a DAIDE game.
