Recommendations for the Medical Field
Use badges to recognize medical 'soft skills' such as therapeutic communication, care of the dying patient, cultural and age considerations, etc.
Use badging to recognize specific medical skills such as a chemotherapy certification
Use badging to recognize academic achievement in coursework, such as highest GPA
Badging could be implemented as a tiered system, allowing students to work through different levels of a program
Lucy Learner
Badges Lucy Earned
After losing her first job, Lucy decides to pursue a career in nursing.
In her nursing program, Lucy has placed multiple certifications in the Open Badges Infrastructure (OBI) of Mozilla. These
include: American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and the Emergency Nurse's Association Trauma Nurse (TNCC) and Pediatric Care (ENPC). See presentation below for more details.
Life After Badges: Lucy has just been hired by the University of Colorado Hospital Medical Center Anschutz campus. One of the deciding factors was Lucy's online backpack of training. She has verification of skills from her education at the University of Colorado and from her former employer, Denver Health. She has accepted an offer for a full time position in the Emergency Department and it appears to be a great fit. She has completed the VA STEPPS program, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, CEN and PCEN.
