Inspiring Middle School Literacy (Mathematics) - This site features online self-paced lessons for blended learning. Each lesson uses videos, interactive activities, note taking, reading, and writing to present students with an engaging mathematics topic. This resource is free (funded by the Walmart Foundation), but teachers must set up classes and enroll students to allow them to use the lessons.
Math Apprentice - "Math is the path to anything you want to be." This site introduces middle grades students to authentic uses of mathematics in careers. Students select an avatar and then explore how math is used in a variety of careers. The Guide to Using Math Apprentice in the Middle School Classroom provides ideas for incorporating the program into instruction.
NCTM Illuminations: Resources for Teaching Math - Search by grade band and by topic. In addition to excellent lessons, the site features "interactive" models that allow students to explore concepts and solve problems.
Algebra Tiles - Model and solve equations using manipulatives.
Math is Fun - Don't let the name fool you. This site is seriously good! Lesson topics include numbers, algebra (including pre-algebra and algebra II), geometry, data, and measurement. This is a great tool for differentiating instruction --with clear explanations, examples and definitions with practice question sets for each lesson.
Khan Academy - Teachers can set up classes in Khan Academy to monitor students’ learning. Students can make use of an extensive library of content, including interactive challenges, assessments, and videos.
Watch, Know, Learn - WatchKnowLearn has indexed approximately 50,000 educational videos, placing them into a directory of over 5,000 categories. The videos are available without any registration or fees to teachers in the classroom. Select the subject from the directory; then set the age filter. Refine your search by including a key word. Educators are invited to rate videos and to submit additional resources for consideration.
