The 2005 at Formula-Simracing was full of success. I was able to score pole positions, many podiums, and finally, get the championship title. Unfortunately, the history of the season is only in our memories, as all details are lost.
From what I remember, i had only 2DNF. One was in Imola, due to a bug of the game. I won very few races, maybe just 2, but one of them was Nürbergring. There was competition, but only a few drivers made most races. The pace was much slower than today! Most of my results were in top 3, on the podium.
I had as team mate the driver that won next 3 WC titles, Bruno Marques, for a few races at the end of the season. Team manager Rogério Baroso was trying to catch FTS (FasterThanSpeed) in team championship, but we failed and finished 2nd.
Driving aids were allowed, but were causing points deductions. I never used any, and my main rival Christian Smirnoff turned them off in the middle of the season.
Christian Smirnoff, 2nd, said after the last GP:
"In the end, it was just not possible to take the Drivers Championship, Denis Kiriakopoulos did, deserving it completely. He was as consistant as I was but with better pace and even if I tried my best it was just not possible to beat him, he was just better and so I'm calm about it. My most sincere congratulations to a fantastic driver, thanks for the challenge and the fun and I feel proud of having been able to battle for it with you"
A couple of weeks earlier, when I was matematically champion, he commented:
"Denis, congratulations for winning the Drivers Championship. I tried to keep trying but you did a fantastic job man. Completely deserved championship. I'm not too disappointed as I knew it would happen sooner of later, but I'm calm that I tried my best and you were just better. Well done mate!"
