To prevent potential user issues accessing video in the LMS, it is best to limit direct uploading to short videos to two minutes or less. YouTube is a free streaming media server set up to handle large files for easy distribution. These directions can be followed to suit the upload of any type of audio/video recording into YouTube.
*If you are looking for a product that allows you to create, share and edit videos (screen record with or without webcam), we also recommend Loom or Panopto. These are similar to having your own YouTube channel. Information can be found here: Screencasting and Video Based Learning
Upload Video to YouTube
Go to YouTube and click on the Upload Video icon in the upper right corner. *You’ll be asked to sign in or create an account. When done, click the Upload Video icon again.
You may also be prompted to create a YouTube Channel. If the user information looks correct, simply click 'Create Channel.'
Click Select File or Drag and drop to choose the video you want to upload.
On the following pages, fill in prompts provided (title your video, etc) and review available settings. On the Visibility tab (last page of prompts), we recommend you select ‘Unlisted’ to keep your video private and only viewable with specific link. Lastly, copy/paste the provided Video Link URL to distribute.
Additional directions available from YouTube are available here and here. Helpful directions can also be found on WikiHow.
Also note that you can upload to and share out larger files (audio/video, presentations, etc) from your OneDrive account. See share files with OneDrive/SharePoint for more information.
