Chapter 4
Results and Analysis
Introduction
The faculty contracts reviewed for this study revealed the interests and priorities of faculty and administrators with regards to distance education. The 28 terms which emerged from the contract data are arranged here in order of frequency of appearance, starting with terms related to the process of distance education and ending with professional responsibility.
Each term covered in this chapter will include a brief description and three examples of language from contracts together with any recommendations from the AAUP. Each section concludes with observations about each term.
Each section will also include a brief note regarding the statutory status of the term. Some terms, the mandatory topics, must be negotiated if either party wishes to negotiate them. Others, called prohibited topics, cannot be discussed even if the parties wish to discuss them. The remaining topics are permissive and may be negotiated if both parties agree to do so.
