Right of refusal (24)
The faculty member who creates a course is often given the first right of refusal in being scheduled to teach the course. Twenty-four colleges included first refusal terms in their contracts. Right of refusal is a permissive term for bargaining.
Examples
Observations. This term is similar to the Scheduling terms in that it offers a level of comfort for the reluctant distance educator. It allows them to know that, if they go through all of the work to create a distance education course, they will have the first right to teach it. It is another term that could be helpful to colleges trying to entice more educators into teaching distance education courses.
