Chapter 2
This literature review will examine the place of distance education in the contracts of community college faculty. The review will begin with an exploration of distance education, its definition, history, benefits and questions of quality. It will then explore community colleges and their general role in higher education. Next, it will present the literature of instruction, including activities generally involved in instruction, faculty workload, faculty incentives and faculty rights. This will segue into an examination of institutional support of instruction. Finally, it will review negotiated agreements, their history, terms and general information about faculty contracts.
