I was born on March 12, 1937 in New York hospital on the east side of Manhattan. My father John Sr. was Italian (Sicilian) and my mother Anna was German. We lived most of our childhood in Astoria , Queens. I joined the Navy at 17 and was honorably discharged in 1957. I met my wife, Marianne shortly after and we were married in 1961. We have four children; Antonette, John, James & Elizabeth. We now have seven grandchildren; Jordan, Amanda, Jonathan, James, Sean, Adrianna & Mathew Joseph!
In 1982 I applied for admission to be a candidate for the Permanant Deaconate in the Diocese of Brooklyn and to my surprise was accepted. After four years of study and prayer, I was ordained a Deacon on April 25, 1987.
I have served as Deacon in three parishes: Most Precious Blood, Astoria, Queens; St. Stanislaus Kostka, Maspeth, Queens; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Brooklyn, New York. I also worked at Transfiguration Parish, Maspeth, Queens, New York as a Sacristan. This beautiful church was founded by the Lithuanian Immigrants about 100 years ago. The present church was built and consecrated in 1962.
On March 25, 2002, I was happy to announce that I had been assigned to St. Margaret's Parish in Middle Village, NY, to serve as Deacon. I looked forward to serving the Priests and people of St. Margaret's for many years when unexpectantly, due to not being able to afford living in New York, my wife and I have moved to central Florida to live near our oldest children. Hopefully I can serve in a parish locally! I am now fully retired at 70 years old!
