“If no one comes from the future to stop you doing it; how bad can it be?”
One of the benefits of my job as a researcher is that I get to work in new and exciting places. Here are some of my favourite pictures.
Beijing night market, various creepy crawlies on sale if you want to munch something a little different. I'm afraid I wasn't brave enough to try them myself. Some of the scorpions you could still see moving as they had not been fried yet.
Some traditional Beijing snacks: octopus balls, stinky tofu (I think it tastes like horse manure smells) and pig tripe - yummy.
A view from the Great Wall of China. If I remember correctly this bit is Mutianyu which is supposed to be a little less touristy. Apparently the more popular places are thronged by visitors from all over the country.
Obligatory picture of the Taj Mahal. I happened to be at one of the annual Indian String theory meetings and decided to visit Agra with some of the other attendees.
Jaffa at night from Tel Aviv. My first postdoc was spent at the Technion in Haifa, Israel. The country is tiny so it is very easy to get to Tel Aviv as long as it is not Shabbat. Jaffa is a historic port with beautiful old buildings.
Tel Aviv Pride parade. Israel is really a country of contrasts. You find very liberal groups of people, such as those you see in this shot of pride parade, and very conservative groups like the Haredim.
Torii gates. I spent the last of my PhD travel money well and went to give talks in Japan.
A waterfall near Cornell University, USA. I was here for their summer session as an undergraduate on a scholarship. It's really a beautiful area.
A ruin on the Island of Milos, Greece. This was the first conference that I went to during my PhD. One of the Aegean summer schools. This island if from where the Venus de Milo statue originates.
