Dan has been performing on Drum Kit for the past 25 years. In his early years he was exposed to players like Frank Corniola and Bill Morrissy in Drum Workshops.
His father, Peter Harvey, is a bass player and introduced a love of music, sound recording and the people involved.
Dan by the age of 13 had established a solid foundation for the fundamentals for playing rock and Latin grooves.
During his high school years Daniel was fortunate to have lessons and various workshops
with Jim Baily (Adelaide Elder Conservatorium). Jim Baily revealed to Dan the
"interaction, precision and perfection" that can be attained on the kit.
This, interwoven with Jim's Percussive virtuoso enabled Dan to be fortunate to
receive sessions on conga, bongos, timbali and tuned Percussion.
These encounters with Jim allowed Dan to approach his kit playing with a fluid but powerful approach,
with extraordinary dynamics and intensity in his grooves --
applying hand-percussion sounds and grooves to the kit.
Laurie Kennedy had a great way of expressing his approach to Jazz time and Feel,
which Dan embraced, listened for,
practised and achieved at a young age.
Daniel's first experience within the university performance environment was playing kit for
his sister, Melissa Harvey's final Jazz Vocal recital at the age of 16 att the Elder Conservatorium, Adelaide, Room B22.
Whilst Daniel completed his Apprenticeship at the Broken Hill Mines as an Electrician he played with
