The Siege of Dennis

4 Couple "Beckette" set (2 couples facing 2 couples)

Tune: 4x32 Polka set, starting with "The Siege of Ennis"

Written at the suggestion of Gareth Kiddier and Kat Deuchars, in honour of Storm Dennis, which turned me into something drowned rats would look at and say "wow, you look like a drowned rat" while I was trying to fill my car with petrol, and flooded the central bakery of my favourite eatery.

A1: Facing couples take hands 4 and circle left once around

Half right and left through across the dance

A2: Right hand couple in each line (odd number couples) dance a ladies chain on the second diagonal, while even ladies chase CW half way round the dance and even men turn to face up and down.

All ladies chain up and down

B1: Right hand couple in each line (odd ladies, even men) dance a ladies chain on the original first diagonal (second diagonal in the new orientation), while even ladies chase CW half way round the dance and odd men turn to face across.

All ladies chain across; the one you chain to is your new partner. Finish facing across the hall.

B2: Do si do your opposite across the hall

Odd couples, on the second diagonal: Men pass left to start half a reel of 4.

I would recommend using courtesy turns in the right and left through and the chains - in particular, if you pretzel in the last chain you'll find you're spinning the wrong way for the do si do
