Special guest, Brad Gottfried will pressent a program based on his book, "Lee Invades the North: a Comparison of the Antietam and Gettysburg Campaigns," at the October 8, 2025, meeting of the CWRT of the Merrimack
As the fall kicks in, we welcome our last out-of-town guest of the year for our October, meeting of the Civil War Roundtable of the Merrimack,.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 7:30pm at the Hilton Senior Center, 43 Lafayette Rd (Rte 1), Salisbury, MA.
We are happy to welcome first time guest, Brad Gottfried, who'll speak on one of his books: "Lee Invades the North: a Comparison of the Antietam and Gettysburg Campaigns."
The two major battles (e.g., Antietam and Gettysburg) that ended Lee's invasion of the North are among the most studied conflicts in the American Civil War. However, no full-book treatment comparing the two campaigns have been published-this volume attempts to rectify that deficiency.
Born in Philadelphia, former college president, Bradley Gottfried was a fan of American history in his youth, but the interest was reignited years later and especially when he retired in 2017.
With the history drive re-activated, Brad has wasted no time in putting to paper ideas and research he's uncovered, and has worked on over 10 books!
In between he's a volunteer at the Antietam Battlefield Visitors' Center, is an Antietam Battlefield Guide and is a Gettysburg Liocensed Town Guide.
Brad and his wife, Linda, live about 30 min. to the west of Gettysburg.
BOOKS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SIGNING AND FOR SALE!
SIDE NOTE: Brad will be speaking on another of his books at the CWRT of NH in Epping on Friday, October 10. All are welcome. Details as: www.cwrt-nh.org

September saw a fantastic 30th anniversary celebration of our group! See some of what went on by checking out the After Action Report (AAR) on this site.

The Civil War Roundtable of the Merrimack has begun a "member participation" project.
We're looking for members to take photos of their Hometown Civil War Memorials, then email the photo to the CWRT of the Merrimack website along with info, such as the town, location (address etc) and any info you might know related to the monument.
As we get them, we'll begin a section on our website as a source of sorts, listing the Monuments or Memorials.
To keep things from getting out of hand, we'd like to keep it to the northeastern part of Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and southen Maine. These are the areas our members reside.
Feel free to send in other towns adjecent to your town or one maybe not covered by membership.
Our email: cwrtm1861@gmail.com
