Greetings! We hope everyone is having a warm Holiday season and look forward to seeing you at our next Pack Meeting.
It's that wonderful time of year when Pack 793 can help make the holidays a little brighter for a family in need. Please review the options below and check your email for the signup. Thank you!
*Important Notes:
Please bring all gifts to the December Pack Meeting: 12/16/21.
Please bring your gifts wrapped with a tag. The tag should contain the family ID# (46), and the child's initials. (For example: #46 -E.B. or #46- Boy, age 9). *Please note that we have two family members with the same initials "T.H." this year, so please distinguish between the two by adding the child's age to your tag).
Please do not sign your name on the tag; however, you can put "From your friend in Pack 793" or "Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays" if you wish.
We are planning and looking forward to an exciting year. Please check out the Parent Action Items to get started. We need lots of volunteers to make this year smooth sailing. Many volunteer positions are for a few weeks, but make a bit impact in our pack. Also, mark your calendars with our first Pack Meeting on Thursday, September 16, 2021.
Welcome! Cub Scout Pack 793 is part of the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts is for boys and girls 6 – 11 years old, in kindergarten through fifth grades. Pack 793 is chartered by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Glenwood, MD.
Scouting is adventure, family, fun, character, leadership and so much more. Join us on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 6:30 for Friends and Family Gaga Ball to learn more about our pack and meet our leaders.
In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life. Scout me in and check out the New to Scouting page.
If you would like more information to join, please email our pack at CubScoutPack793@gmail.com.
We held our May Committee meeting last night and I’m happy to report that we’ve had another very successful year of scouting. Our scouts have worked hard and nearly all of them have earned their next rank.
Last month we bridged our 16 AoL Scouts into Troop 757. This month we will bridge the remaining 36 Scouts to their new ranks within Pack 793. Den 1 will be the new AoL leaders of the Pack.
Lord, please help us and keep us safe.
We have a lot to be proud of, especially the hard work and positive attitudes of our scouts and the dedication and creativity of our den leaders and parents for helping us find creative ways to teach the lessons of scouting and execute on a very non-traditional scouting plan.
As we wrap up the year, we still have few fun activities to prepare for. You can find the details for each below.

Do you know of a young scout who might be interested in learning more about Pack 793 and scouting? If so, please invite them to join us. This will be a very casual meeting and a great place for them to get to know us.
Also, at this Pack meeting we will be collecting used books to be placed in the “Little Free Library Boxes” at Western Regional Park and donated to the Maryland Book Bank. Please bring any old books that you would like to donate. The Den with the most book donations at this pack meeting will win a special prize.

The Wolves will be receiving their Pack 793 Staves.
We will also be handing out Rocket Kits that will be needed for the October Pack Meeting.
Thank you for your leadership for Pack 793. Although we face interesting times in 2020, we are looking forward to another good year in Scouting. As I begin as Committee Chair, I am looking forward to learning much from all of you and putting together a year of interesting activities for our Scouts. We are looking at how to achieve all of our goals as a Pack this year, while still keeping everyone safe and healthy. This will require some creativity and flexibility on all of our parts, so put on your thinking caps.
We are looking to have a Pack Planning Meeting on Saturday, July 25th from 9-11am via Zoom. At that time, we can work to plan an outline of our year and think about how to hold our events (or even try new ones).
We are looking to involve some new tools to help us communicate through this year and the future. One of these is Slack, which provides easy channels to send messages to groups at once and keep track of our messages and files. If you are like me, these would get lost in my email, so I have found that Slack can be helpful. It can be used on your computer or mobile device through a free app. I sent all of you invitations to join the Pack 793 Slack channel already, but let me know if you want another invitation. Hopefully this can help us stay connected, and it even allows you to call each other through the mobile app without knowing the other person's phone number. It can come in handy in a pinch.
As we walk through our year at the planning meeting, Bob and I will look to your advice on how to continue to have all of our Pack thrive, even in these challenging times. Thank you again for you time and thoughts for the Pack.
Please let me know if you have questions. YIS,
Dave
Please join us to share your ideas and discuss our path forward.
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: Jun 14, 2020 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

We officially kick of the 2019/20 Scouting year for Pack 793 this Thursday.

At the registration desk, you will be able to:
Pay annual dues ($100 per Scout) via cash, check or credit card
Turn in youth and adult leader applications
Order Pack T-Shirts – Class B Uniforms ($15 each)
Pick up Handbooks, neckerchiefs, and slides
Pick up Popcorn order sheets and talk to our fundraising team about any questions you might have regarding the new program or the Trails End app.
Meet our Pack’s Committee Members
Ask general questions about the pack's program plan
Learn how you can volunteer/help
In an effort to recycle and reuse, we are asking that you please bring with you and donate to the Pack any unused and unneeded scout handbooks, caps, neckerchiefs and slides you might have laying around.
During the opening of our meeting we’ll briefly cover the new popcorn sales program, goal setting, rewards program and how the app works and how Scouts can sign up for shifts to sell popcorn at storefront locations.
Our theme for this meeting is going to be “Helpful” and we are going to discuss how scouts look for ways to be helpful.
Other than that, we have a few games, skits, and jokes on tap and we plan to have a lot of fun.
We are looking forward to a great year of scouting and are thankful for all the wonderful volunteers who have spent so much time helping us pull everything together.
We had a great Program Planning meeting last night and our next Scouting year is really taking shape.
We are going to begin migrating from ScoutTrack to ScoutBook. Therefore, we have begun adding activities to the Scoutbook calendar for you to check out. What is ScoutBook you might ask; if so, here is a link with detailed information and a helpful video describing this new free tool.
I'm asking that you please take a moment, as soon as reasonably possible, to log into Scoutbook and set up your free account. Once you have logged in, check out the calendar of activities that we are building. Also, please confirm that your Scout's information is accurate and complete.
There is a free app for your smart phone or tablet which is nice to have when you are on the move; however, the features are somewhat limited. Therefore, for the complete experience, log in via a normal web browser from your PC.
Yours in Scouting,
Bob Morris
Last weekend we had another terrific Pack 793 Family Campout at the Maryland Farm Museum. The weather was fantastic and our Scouts had a blast. Thanks again to all those who worked so hard putting this event together. Nice work everyone! However, a special thanks goes to Carl Christy and Justin Rix for leading the charge and of course to Mike Wilmeth for another unforgettable campfire program.
Next up on our Pack Calendar is the June Pack Committee Meeting, which will be held at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center (Hay Meadow Room) on June 20th at 7:00pm. All are invited to join these meetings. Committee Meetings are a great place to learn more about what the pack is planning and even play a role in the decision-making process.
On July 13, at Centennial Lake in Columbia, we are invited to participate in the 2019 National Pike Fishing Derby. Detailed information on the event as well as registration details can be found at the link in my previous sentence. This is a great way to spend a summer Saturday morning, I know Bobby and I are really looking forward to it and I hope to see many of you out there.
Later in July is Scout Skills weekend on 7/19 to 7/21. Last month I sent a detailed email outlining the event. The content of this email will be reposted on the pack website soon. So far, we only have a handful of people signed up. If you are interested and available to join us, please visit our sign up genius page at Scout Skills Weekend Link and sign up. For the purposes of proper planning, we need to obtain a reliable head count as soon as possible. The deadline for sign up will be June 21st.
We are very lucky to have a pack with so many enthusiastic participating parents. Our volunteer positions have been filling up and we have a strong leadership roster taking shape for the 2019/20 scouting year. However, we still have a few critical openings that we need help filling.
Fundraising Committee Chair: Be the person who helps secure the critical funding of the Pack’s outings and events. This is a crucial role for our Pack. You will be working with the Pack Committee organizing the selling locations for popcorn sales, managing the inventory of product, and working with and directing the Den Leaders as they lead the Scouts in the actual selling process. The busiest period will be from September to the end of October. After that, fundraising activities are typically minor projects like T-Shirt Sales and Camp Cards.
Committee Secretary: This role is very straight forward. A more detailed description can be found by following the preceding link to our Pack website. The primary time commitment here is that you would need to attend the monthly Pack Committee Meetings and keep organized the meeting minutes, agendas, and follow up items from each meeting.
Finally, I’m asking that all parents please log into ScoutTracks and make certain that your personal contact information and emergency contact information are entered correctly in the contact fields. BSA is making huge strides in digitizing and cataloging the achievements of our scouts and cataloging critical information. Having this information complete in ScoutTracks will help assure that our Scout's hard earned achievements are processed and properly attributed in the BSA system. (No, we do not share or sell your information.) If you have any issues logging into ScoutTracks, simply let me know and I will send you a password reset.
It is time for our fantastic Fall Family Campout on Saturday June 1 at the Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum (across from the Fairgrounds). This is always a great weekend for the scouts and siblings alike! This is a whole family event filled with great food, fun activities, and a hilariously outrageous campfire. We will once again be looking for skits and songs from the dens.
Since this is a family event, siblings are encouraged to come. Parents should bring a tent and scouts/siblings should sleep in the family tent (or in a tent with same-age scouts). Please join us for as long as you can!!! If you do not wish to stay and camp you are more than welcome to just come for the cookout and campfire.
Who? Pack 793 scouts, families, and friends
What? Spring Family Campout

It is SO important for us to have an accurate count of who is joining us!
Number of adults
Number of kids (include their rank - Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, AoL)
Will you be staying overnight?
This campout is not possible without the help of all of you! It takes a lot of volunteers to make things go smoothly. We will need EACH attending family to bring a food item for dinner/dessert or breakfast. See the SignUpGenius page for our campout to select your food item(s). There is lots to choose from!!
*Suggested serving size for dishes & desserts is 10-15 people*
The pack will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, cheese for burgers, buns, condiments, drinks, and s'mores!
See the SignUp Genius page to RSVP and volunteer for Pot Luck/Bring Stuff" NO LATER THAN 5/25!
Den Leaders - please prepare two skits for the Bonfire
All - make sure to bring foldable chairs for dinner and the bonfire
We will be adhering to the two-deep leadership principles for every child’s protection (scouts may not tent with non-parent adults)
We will be taking donations to offset food costs, and to minimize any impact of the Fall Campout on the Pack’s budget
There will be a strict no tolerance for alcohol or tobacco products for this event. We risk getting our pack charter revoked for non-compliance
Thank you for the opportunity to help with this year’s Spring Scout Family Campoutand we look forward to seeing everyone there June 1st. Please let me know us you have any questions.
Thanks!
Carl and Justin from Mighty Den 6

I am sending this preliminary note to ask all of us to Save the Date for "Scouting for Food" on Saturday March 16th (Bag Drop-Off) and Saturday March 23rd (Food Pick-Up). More details will follow next week.
For those unfamiliar, during Scouting for Food, the Cub Scouts (in their dens) attach empty bags on mailboxes one Saturday morning. In my experience, this goes VERY quickly. Dens are assigned locations to cover, and that information will come soon. The following Saturday, the scouts pick up foodleft in the bags at the curb. This also goes PRETTY quickly. All in, probably 1/2 hour to 45 minutes each time.
The food is brought to a determined location, and goes to a local food bank.
I am looking forward to seeing Pack 793 doing good in our community! Class A Uniforms are a great way to show off!
Thursday: Pack Meeting and Friends of Scouting Presentation
Thursday night we have our February Pack Meeting. We will play games and we will hand out awards. During the meeting, a volunteer from the district will be making the annual Friends of Scouting presentation to ask for your support of the local Scouting program. The dues we pay each year provide the funds needed to run the unit program, and we pay our $37 registration fee to the National Boy Scouts of America. Friends of Scouting funds support our local Baltimore Area Council and all of the services they provide. Our council spends about $185 per Scout above and beyond the yearly chartering fee we all pay.
I know that many things compete for your dollars, but I submit for your consideration making an investment in youth development through the Friends of Scouting Campaign. You can make a pledge at the presentation and pay it whenever and however you want in 2019 or make a donation that night by cash, check or credit card. All Friends of Scouting donations are 100% tax deductible. Click here for more information and a downloadable pledge form.
Saturday: Blue & Gold Dinner
Saturday at 4pm is our annual Blue & Gold Dinner. It sounds like we are going to have a HUGE crowd and I am so excited to see everyone! We will celebrate the birthday of scouting, recognize ALL of our scouts on their progress toward their ranks, thank our volunteers, and, most importantly, award our Arrow of Light recipients their hard-earned badges and plaques!
I am looking forward to terrific skits, great food, and a fun program reflecting on our year of scouting (including a great video in the works now)! See you at Circle D on Saturday!

The Pack 793 Pinewood Derby* is coming up soon (Feb 9th) and I can't wait to see the cars that everyone is creating for the event! Remember -- scouts can win for speed (of course), but they are also recognized for interesting and original designs, creativity, patriotism, scout spirit, and much more! I hope we get close to 100% participation.

Last night was our Holiday Pack Meeting. It was well attended and we learned about sharing, community, caring, and giving. The pack collected over 55 gifts for our adopted family. And we were treated to a visit from Santa Claus.
A special Thank You to Mary for organizing the Adopt a Family.

There are a LOT of things going on in Pack 793! Here is a quick summary of information being shared in this email:
There is a full Pack meeting on Thursday, October 18th from 7 to 8 at Bushy Park Elementary
Bring dues check and/or registration if you have not already submitted them
Turn in final individual popcorn forms for scouts
Pack photograph at the end of the meeting. If you do not want your scout's photo on our website, please email me.
Bring in your neckerchief slides (lead paint concern)
Consider these before the meeting
Sign up for the November 10th visit to Troop 757 camp site
Help the Pack by coordinating the Gettysburg trip on November 17th
Volunteer to be the Assistant Cubmaster
Volunteer up to be the Fundraising Coordinator (Popcorn Chair) for next year
The November Pack meeting is on 11/29, not 11/15
Dues and Registration
If you have not yet submitted registration paperwork (only new scouts) or dues (all scouts), please have these for Thursday. If you need registration forms, they will be available at the meeting. It is CRITICAL that we get this paperwork completed this week.
Popcorn Orders Due
Time to turn in your popcorn order forms! Please bring them to the Pack meeting along with payment for the items. The popcorn will deliver in mid-November and will be handed out at the November Pack meeting on 11/29 (if you need it sooner than the meeting, arrangements can be made).
Pack Photograph
We will be taking a Pack photograph. We will need all parents to fill out a photo release form (available at the meeting). If you do not want your scout to be on the home page of the Pack, please let me know. We will take a photograph without these scouts.
Neckerchief Slides
A reminder, if you have a NEW neckerchief slide (given to you this year), please bring it back so we can replace them. There is a minor lead paint concern (which I emailed about a couple weeks ago).
Troop 757 Visit
Boy Scout Troop 757 has invited Pack 793 to visit their camp-out at the Howard County Living Heritage Farm Museum the weekend of November 9-11. ALL scouts may visit on 11/10 from 1pm to 3pm for visitation and wilderness survival demonstrations. Webelos and AOL scouts may spend the night Friday 11/9 and Saturday 11/10 as part of their requirement to visit Scout Troops. Parent/Guardian is required. Sign up sheet is to come.
Gettysburg Trip
There is a Gettysburg Illumination on November 17. We would like to encourage families to attend this event and to meet up with scouts in uniform. BUT -- we need someone to volunteer to coordinate this event (get information, email the Pack, coordinate a meeting spot). This is an easy volunteer opportunity. Please let me know by email or early on Thursday night.
Critical Volunteer Spots
We still need an Assistant Cubmaster and a Fundraising Coordinator (Popcorn Chair). Please email me or talk to me at the meeting for more information on these important OPEN positions.
Correcting the Calendar for November
I have sent out a number of emails with the wrong November Pack meeting date. The actual date of the Pack meeting in November is 11/29. If you come on 11/15, you will be treated to a wonderful version of "The Lion King" by the Bushy Park Elementary Players -- maybe some of our scouts! Go see it...but it is not the Pack meeting.
It is time for our fantastic Fall Family Campout on Saturday October 13th at the Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum (across from the Fairgrounds).
Show and sells are going well. Don't forget to fill out those individual sales forms! Try to have your scouts sell for 1 hour in your neighborhood, at your work, and with your family. Always with a buddy and in uniform! Forms will be due at the Pack meeting on 10/18.
First things first - our September Pack meeting is on Thursday, September 13th (at the Bushy Park Cafeteria). We are going to have a parents' meeting for all parents (likely on that same date just before the meeting) to talk about our annual calendar and planning. It will be very important for parents to come to that (details to come).
At the close of last year, the Pack 793 Committee approved the decision to follow BSA Scouts' guidelines and begin to admit and recruit girls into our Pack. We are excited about this decision. Today, officially, we are opening up registration for girls. If your daughter would like to join Pack 793 (Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) she is welcome to sign up. We will explain how girls' dens will work during the parents' meeting. Also, for the first time, Pack 793 will be opening registration to Kindergartners. This group will be called "Lions" and we already have a Den Leader, Stacey Handley. Stacey will be working with her husband and seasoned Den Leader Eric Aldrich. We are so lucky to have both of them in our Pack.
We will once again be selling popcorn as our annual fundraiser. The popcorn for "Show and Sells" is already ordered, and we are preparing the schedule for those. In addition, scouts will receive their personal selling sheets at the first meeting. Thanks in advance for your support in this important effort. It helps us keep fees down and provide some great events for the boys and girls.
I am looking forward to this Cub Scout year. It is my last full year as Cubmaster, and I have been privileged to serve this role in the community for a very long time. I have learned much from the hundreds of scouts who I have worked with since joining the Pack in 2003, and I still marvel at their spirit, creativity, and energy. They make life fun, and I hope they enjoy most of what Pack 793 has to offer. I have also worked with some amazing adult volunteers, and our current Committee and Den Leaders are some of the most committed and finest I've worked with -- thank you all. I look forward to working with parents of younger scouts to start a smooth Cubmaster transition process between now and March 2020 when my youngest boys move on to Boy Scouts.
