Convert Text

Clicking on Convert Text in the Edit ribbon command bar opens a new window which enables text to be changed to alphabetic characters or number groups.

Paste the text to be formatted into the Source text field.

Set the required options and click Convert. The converted text will appear in the Converted text field.

Selecting Show mapping will show which source character each converted text character or number group represents.

Formatting Options

Split every nth char. - Group the formatted text into the number of characters selected. The range is 1 - 20 characters.

Split - Selects text from the source text field and copies it to the Converted text field, inserting spaces at the selected interval.

Change Newlines to Space - Replaces the end of line characters to a space.

Copy result - Copies the converted text to the clipboard.

Enter divider char.- Enter the character(s) in the source text to change to spaces. If no characters are entered no additional spaces will be added when alphabetic characters are selected as the output style.

Output style - Sets the output characters for the converted text. Three options are provided:

  • A,B,C... - Changes the source characters, or groups of characters if a divider character is set, to alphabetic characters.

  • 1,2,3... - Changes the source characters, or groups of characters if a divider character is set, to numeric characters starting at 1.

  • 01,02,03... - Changes the source characters, or groups of characters if a divider character is set, to numeric character pairs starting at 01.

Convert - Converts the source text based on the options set. Tabs and newlines are ignored.

Show mapping - Shows the converted text to source text mapping and the frequency of each character/group.

Splitter - The vertical bar between the Source text and Converted text can be dragged to resize the two main fields.

Close - Closes the window.

Example Output

The example below is from Edgar Alan Poe's novel The Gold-Bug and shows the result of converting the ciphertext to A-Z along with the character mapping.
