The Cross Hands and District Stick Show was held on Saturday 28 October 2017 at Cross Hands Workingmen’s Club.
As usual there were exhibitors from Wales, Ireland and England who support the show every year.
Demonstrators took part in the following side shows: stick making, wood carving, love spoons, halter making, paintings, wood turning, basket making, leatherwork and there were also stick materials for sale on the day.
There were 300 sticks in the competition, with 15 entering the Open and 3 in the Novice.
The two judges this year were Mr Arwyn George from Manordeilo, Carmarthenshire, and Mr Hywell Evans from Aberystwyth.
The Alan Claude Davies Memorial Cup and The Dorian Heel Bar Perpetual Shield for Champion Stickmaker went to Mr Reg Marshall, Hereford.
The Mr and Mrs V Keith Jones Cup for Reserve Open Champion went to Mr Geraint Davies, Llanelli.
The Best Stick in show was won by Mr Reg Marshall.
The Best Opposite Stick was won by Mr Tom Kavanagh, Co Kildare, Ireland.
The Lynn Evans Memorial Cup for Best One Piece Market Stick was made by Mr Alan Shreeve, Stratford Upon Avon.
The Novice Champion was Mr Caerwyn Morgan, Llanelli who received the Williams and Howells Shield.
The Best Stick in show was won by Mr Caerwyn Morgan.
The Cross Hands and District Stickmakers Association extends an invitation to all stick makers to join us next year in our 20th Stick Show and Craft Fair on Saturday 26th October 2019.
