The 18th Cross Hands Stick Show held at Tumble and Great Mountain Workingmen’s Club once again proved to be a great success. The Show was our 9th year as part of the British Stick Makers Guild Championship points system. As in previous years it has attracted stick makers from all over the country, this year including competitors from Ireland. There were many side attractions at the show, which included wood carving, love spoons, halter making, paintings, wood turning, basket making and leather work. Stick making materials and other items were also for sale.
Gordon Flintoft from Yorkshire has supported our show for many years and this year won the champion stick, reserve champion stick, best one piece stick and best market stick.
Arwyn George obtained the most points in the show and won 12 out of the 22 classes. He was awarded the Alan Davies memorial cup for champion stickmaker and the Dorian Heel Bar perpetual shield, for champion stickmaker.
Novice champion stick maker was Sean McCormack, Ireland, who also won the champion stick and reserve opposite stick.
Hawys Mills was the reserve champion stickmaker and also won the Williams and Howells shield for best stick by a junior, 16 years or under.
Judges for the 2015 Cross Hands and District Show were Andrew Jones and Dafydd Davies. Many thanks to both of you.
There were exactly 350 sticks in this year’s show.
