Digital Modes

Here is some information on different Digital Modes.

For DMR follow Brandmeister for TS(Time Slot) and TG(Talkgroup).

The following is what I found that might be useful.

There are many System Fusion Yahoo Groups but our repeater uses the ysfgateway developed by Jonathan Naylor, G4KLX

All of the software for the digital side of our repeater is here https://github.com/g4klx
D-Star Google Search
YSFGateway Google Search
Yaesu System Fusion Google Search

We also discussed Hotspots.
Most commercially available Hotspots can use mmdvmhost for control.
One Hotspot that is being developed for DIY is the mmdvm_hs.
This can be built with a RF7021SE Module and a Blue Pill STM32Duino and here is a DIY Board to put it together

I will add to this list if I find anything else that is helpful.
Of course D-Star and Yaesu System Fusion are pretty easy to find information for.

If you would like to use Experimental Firmware with your MD-380.
Experimental MD380Tools - Travis Goodspeed, KK4VCZ if you want to use your own setup.

Pre-Built Firmware - Easiest route.

Virtualbox Appliance - to create your own. Note VHF doesn't have large enough space for user cps.

MD380Toolz - KG5RKI,Ty Weaver's version of MD380Tools - This version changes some features but is just a "derivative" of Travis Goodspeed's version. This is the easiest route and the one I recommend.

MD380Tools - Homepage of MD380Tools

I came across this page that has another way to install experimental firmware and explains the features of said firmware.
Modifications for Retevis RT3 / Tytera MD-380 (?)

The new repeater when installed is now going to have XLX reflectors for DMR.
To use them you make a private call to 64001 to 64027 and then to disconnect make a private call to 4000.
Once you connect you use the reflector via TG6.

It will also be connected to Brandmeister as well as DMR+
DMR+ will be accessible via TG8
The above is a very informative video presentation on programming DMR radios. It is 4 very long videos but well worth watching all 4. I learned quite a bit from these videos.

If you have a radio with GPS on it you need to go to Brandmeister Selfcare if you have a dstar.su Selfcare account. If you don't then you need to get your Dstar.su Selfcare account first. Once you can logon to Brandmeister Selfcare you come to your account page. Set Radio Brand to "Chinese Radio" Set your preferred APRS interval (I would probably pick 180 seconds) Set your other settings to your preference then turn on "In Call GPS"
Then in your radio set your GPS TG to 310999.
Now if it is setup correctly, when you transmit on the repeater, you should show up on aprs.fi.
Good site to explain programming for TYT with GPS here.

Explanation of Reflectors per (https://www.toshen.com/ke0fhs/pi-star-notes.htm)

  • BrandMeister reflectors use no prefix = 4001 - 4999. Link using a private call, then talk via a group call to TG 9:
    • To unlink from reflectors, make a private call to TG 4000.
    • To unlink from dynamic talkgroups, make a group call to TG 4000.
    • To check link status, make a private call to TG 5000.

  • XLX reflectors use prefix 6 = 64001 - 64999. Link using a private call, then talk via a group call to TG 6.
    • To change XLX modules, 64001 = module A, 64002 = B, etc.
    • As of Aug 2017: Private calls to 8001 - 8999 can be used to select XLX masters, for example, 68313 = XLX313, 68950 = XLX950.
    • As of Jan 2018: Private calls to 8000 - 8999 can be used with DMRGateway to link to XLX reflectors, for example, 68313 links to XLX313's default module (and drops any previously linked reflector), 68950 = XLX950 (on its default E module/4005).
    • As of Jan 2018: A private call to 64000 will drop the link to an XLX module, but not to the XLX master.
    • Per Andy Taylor in the Pi-Star Users Support Group⇗: "If you need to override the XLX default room/module numbers, make a file, /root/XLXHosts.txt, with only the XLX masters that you need to override in there, using the same format as the file downloaded from the update server. Set the room to whatever you want. This will stay put through the update process." For more about this, see the note: Method for overriding default XLX rooms.

  • DMR+ reflectors (use prefix 8) = 84001 - 84999. Link using a private call, then talk via a group call to TG 8.

DMR reflector XLX950

XLX950⇗ is a Multi-protocol Gateway developer platform hosted by DVC, and provides a bridge between DMR and D-STAR. XLX950 talkgroups 4001 - 4026 are bridged to XRF950 modules A - Z:

    • XLX950 TG x4001 = XRF950A
    • XLX950 TG x4002 = XRF950B
    •    • • •
    • XLX950 TG x4026 = XRF950Z

As usual, Craig, W1MSG, has a good video about all of this: DMRGateway⇗.
