Map Drawing Objectives
The objective is to get a simple map that is something more than a sketch map.
In many cases, the map will be used in a publication.
Good maps are important in field notes.
Approaches
Map Tracing
This involves map tracing. It is often possible to see the area to be drawn in Google Earth. GE has tools which help.
Center Line with Lateral Distances
Establish a center line. Walk this line and get distance pairs: along the line and to a side point. Keep careful notes so this can be interepreted.
Traverse
Measure a chain of distance and direction pairs. (Direction from a GPS if you are walking; otherwise use a compass.)
