The Iliau Loop Trail provides easy access to a large patch of Iliau (Wilkesia gymnoxiphium). This site is located along the Waimea Canyon Road. This bowl-shaped site also contains a number of interesting native species, along with a spectacular view of Waimea Canyon.
There are some plant identification signs along the loop trail that surrounds most of the Iliau.
Assignment
The Iliau Loop Trail provides a good opportunity for conservation education. The site already has a large number of visitors and there has been an attempt to provide some information about the native species.
Better use can be made of this resource.
There is also some possibility that the primary value of this site, the presence of the Iliau, may be impacted by the "invasion" of the forest trees.
