The Two Camps

This conceptual model two types of camps:

• Cultural Camp (Urban/Suburban)
• Conservation Camp (Wilderness)

Students are expected to rotate between the two camp types. The design does not preclude all the students being at one type of camp at the same time.

Four weeks:

• 1: Common camp - near Lihue for access to community
• 2: Half wilderness/half town - primary research training
• 3: Half town/half wilderness - primary research training
• 4: Common camp - near NTBG for access to herbarium

Problems

The student "projects" are oriented around "problems." The core of the Problem-Based philosophy is to not provide too much information about the problem. Defining the actual problem and how it will be solved is part of what the students have to do.
