Through my studies and professional work I have shown community relations competence by:
Reflection:
Even though my educational background and teaching is math, I really enjoy writing, and I have been fortunate enough to have been published in the Fargo Forum two times sharing my opinions regarding education, respect, and culture. I also believe I have worked as an educator to communicate well with the parents and involve them as much as possible in the education of the children in my middle school math classroom. I know that keeping those stakeholders in the loop in regards to goals and initiatives can create an open line of communication where both parties are willing to come to the conversation in good times and challenging times.
Maintaining a positive image of the school and the school district is also critical to the relations a principal has with the community. Through ED 635, I created a professional learning network on Twitter to share my thoughts and practices on education, as well as promote the really amazing things our school has been doing throughout the year. For instance, every competency has a tweet that I posted sometime throughout last year relating to the competency in one way. For community relations, I was very proud of our student council in collecting food for the annual Fill the Dome food drive in November, so I used photos taken by a student's parent to promote the great work our students did in the community.
