I'm currently a 6th and 7th grade math teacher at Sullivan Middle School in Fargo, ND. Education has already been an important aspect of my life with much of my family in the classroom as a teacher and special educator, and I'm always looking to learn and grow as a person and educator. MSUM's Educational Leadership program is giving me that opportunity to study leadership in the educational setting with an emphasis on K-12 Administration.
This portfolio provides an avenue to showcase my growth and development through the MSUM Educational Leadership program. The pages contain artifacts from my courses and practicum experiences to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and disposition I have gained through studying and learning from the core leadership competencies for administrators.
I truly believe education and learning happens both in and out of the classroom, so I love to be involved in extracurricular activities. I officiate NCAA and high school soccer. That picture to the right is of the 2017 North Dakota State Championship game. I also officiate NCAA and high school football. I enjoy writing as well, so to tie all of it together, you're more than welcome to read an article I wrote for the Fargo Forum in the fall of 2017: We Need to Change the Culture of Youth Sports.
When I'm not in the classroom or on a field somewhere, I love to travel, watch movies, and spend time with family and friends. The photo here is from a mission trip I took to work with children of a very poor town called El Zorrillo (which translate in Spanish to "the skunk"). There I taught math using my rudimentary Spanish at Lantern Hill, a summer school program that also provides a healthy lunch for the students.
