The very first thing to fit is the heater.
The heater matrix is fitted to Quantums own heater box. The fan unit is then bolted on to the heater box. This was relatively straight forward, however I modified part of the chassis by filing a bigger hole in the vertical panel behind the dashboard on the passenger side. This enabled the fan to be bolted on to the heater box, and fitted as one unit; instead of fitting the heater box first and trying to attach the fan as suggested in the build manual.
A P-clip was attached to the drivers side to hold up the heater pipe away from the steering column.
Large rubber grommets were fitted to the holes where the heater pipe exits the chassis; to stop any rubbing.
Pedal box
The pedal box is built up into a complete unit, which is then bolted to the chassis.
The Zetec pedal box is of a different design to the standard Pinto pedal box. This is due to the fact that the intake manifold is on the right hand side of the engine, and thus you need more space to accommodate it. The master cylinder has to be offset to the right, however to keep the brake pedal in the same place an extra box has to be attached. This supports the brake bar fabricated by Quantum which is used to offset the master cylinder push rod. Because the pedal box has moved off to the right, a spacer (the shiny bit) has to be used to bring the clutch cable in line with the master cylinder. The aluminium spacer supplied by Quantum only had one hole to attach it with. I didn't like the idea of it possibly moving out place, and wearing through the cable. The spacer was modified by welding an extra inch of aluminium to form a square base, and drilling a second hole. This was much more secure.
