72 MK SCALES IN HM NOTATION
it is enough if CM uses 18 MK janaka ragams. and adopt the HM notation.
These 18 melakartha scales account for nearly 200 janyaragams commonly come across in CM songs and concerts.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a separate web-page, we will try to see the janya ragams of the non-vivadhi scales(32) and some vivadhi (40) but unmusical scales
(14) ..pretty few!
here is a nice set of replies from quora
Which melakarta raga is sung rarely in carnatic music concerts?
Reman Krishnan, An experienced Carnatic Music Listener.
There are many ragas in carnatic music, that are rarely sung in concerts.I would mention some melakarta ragas here, even though there are many more.
1.Tanarupi
Eventhough it is a 6th melakarta raga,it has just two kritis in it.The raga and the kritis are rarely sung in concerts. The raga also sounds quite awkward with the presence of D3,N3,R1 and G1.
2.Vakulabharanam
It is 14 th Melakarta raga and this raga is the carnatic equivalent of Basanth Mukhari in Hindustani music, but is seldom sung in carnatic concerts. This raga has about six krithis in it,but none are popular except Eramuni by Saint Tyagaraja which is sung in some rare concerts. This raga evokes the feeling of sympathy and sadness and is a very powerful raga too.It is often mistaken with one of its popular janya ragas-Ahiri.
3.Sucharitra
This raga too has just two krithis in it,and is rarely sung in concerts. It too has an awkward scale containing R3,G3,M2,D1 and N1 in it.Velum mayilume -is a Koteeswara Iyer Kriti that is popular in this raga.
There are atleast 10 melaragas that should be specified, but ending with just 3!

RSR...( prepared on 16-3-2018)
Out of 72 Melakartha ragams, 40 scales are VIVADI
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NON-VIVADI ARE
M1: ( 8-11 ), ( 14-17), ( 20-23 ) and (26-29 )
M2: ( 44-47), ( 50-53 ), ( 56-59) and (62-65)
Therefore, only 32 scales obey the rule.
HM has used 10 of these 32 scales.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
These following scales are not used in HM but these satisfy the basis on which HM scales were chosen.
However, out of these 22 , only about eight are usually used even in CM. because, THE OTHER SCALES are not sweet.
So, we can advocate the addition of about 8 more scales to HM from CM. ( they have already adopted)
