1860.  August. Derbyshire Courier.- Renovation of Chesterfield Town Hall. - In taking down the old building a portion of wainscoating was found on which was written -"John Clay joiner. Wingerworth 1787". - No doubt Mr Clay was the joiner employed in the old building and the date is undoubtedly the year of its erection.

1861. March 20th. Derby Mercury Newspaper. Crown Court. William Clay age 23 Labourer pleaded guilty to stealing on the 2nd of March at Wingerworth a pewter measure, sentenced to 3 months.

1890. June. Derby Daily Telegraph. - Police Court - An Excursonist in Trouble.- Sarah Clay of Wingerworth, domestic servant was charged with being drunk at Matlock Bath on the 11th. She had been rolling in the road and was in a very dirty state. Ordered to pay 14s-6d including costs.

Belper News.- Wingerworth Dealers Pure Coffee. - An Inspector found it was only 75%. - Susan Elizabeth Clay shopkeeper at Wingerworth said she had purchased the coffee from the wholesalers and therefore was not responsible. The chairman said she had sold the coffee in good faith but still had to fine her £1 and costs.
