Welcome to my website!

My name is Claudia Mignone and I used to study the Universe, while now I mostly write and talk about it <==> I am a Doctor of Astrophysics turned science writer, editor and communicator.

After 10 years working in science communication as a contractor for the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands, I just moved to my native Italy to work as astronomy outreach and communication specialist ("technologist") at the headquarters of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) in Rome.

I also enjoy collaborating with visual and performing artists on projects inspired by science, space and astronomy to research new approaches to scientific narration. I am committed to equity and justice – in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and beyond.

Stuff you can find on this website:

    • info about independent science outreach activities I organise and/or participate in

    • links to articles I wrote and other multimedia content I (co-)produced for ESA, ESO and Hubble about astronomy & space science

    • links to articles about astronomy I wrote for Science in School and the occasional guest blog post

    • photos I took and/or like

    • some details about my old research work in cosmology

Image Credits: My portrait has been taken in my old office at ESA-ESTEC by artist Ekaterina Smirnova. A 3D model of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko was lurking in the background. The landscape photo shows an actual comet in the sky -- Comet NEOWISE -- as seen from Amsterdam in July 2020. Click and zoom for a clearer view: it's the fuzzy white thing in the sky that makes you think your eyes might be playing a trick -- they aren't. Which is exactly how it looked (to me, at least) in the sky from the city those nights. I love comets but well, who doesn't?
