Building & Library Services

Where are your restrooms?

On the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floors. (There are no public restrooms on the 1st floor so you can direct patrons to the nearest restroom on 2nd floor or if they have children with them they are welcome to use the restrooms within the Children's department.)

What are your hours?/How late are you open?

Mon-Thurs 10am-8pm

Fri-Sat 10am-6pm

Sun 11am-5pm

Is there wifi here? Do I need a password?

Yes – just have your device connect to the the “Xmission” network. There is no password or network key required so just sign in as a "Guest".

Can I print here?

Yes – printing from one of our computers is available on each floor. There is also the option of sending a print job from your device to a library printer. See a reference desk or welcome desk for assistance.


How can I volunteer for the library?

Inquire with the Friends of the Library via our website.


Can I send a fax?

Yes via the scanner in the Technology Center. You can also print color copies or copy to a USB. Faxing costs $1.00 per page. Scanning documents to email is free though there is a cost to print color copies.

Do you have any CEC cards?

They are offered by a drawing held at the beginning of each month. The entry box is kept at the checkout desk.


Do you issue State Park cards?

No - we no longer offer these.

Can I scan something here?

Yes we have scanners in our Technology Center located on the west side of the first floor just behind the AV collection.

How can I request a book for purchase?

Go to website – click on the “About” tab – then “Location” – next click the link "Recommend an item for purchase" near the top.

Do you have a wheelchair for a patron to use?

Yes but it is for emergency use only (We have just 1 wheelchair and it's use is determined by Safety or the LIC).


Where's my meeting?

(You can check for unlisted meetings on the Staff Wiki, and listed meetings on the public website under “Events”)

Conference Room E is next to Children’s collection on the lower level.

A B C and D are located in the Lower Urban Room (accessed by going out of the library and going down the stairs in the Urban Room.)

Can I reserve a room here?

Yes – inquire with our Event Coordinator, online at https://www.slcpl.org/rooms/request, or head over to the reference desk in our AV department to see if they have a small room available for the day.

How many meeting rooms are here?

There are about 2 on each floor available for reservation.

Do you have computer classes?

We do, you can get a schedule of classes on our website or brochures at the Welcome Desk.

Is there an ATM?

Yes, it is in the Urban Room, near the west entrance.

Can I use your phone?

There is a courtesy phone on the 1st floor. (Note: it isn't advisable to allow patrons to use the department phones).

Getting around on public transportation:

Just give UTA a call and tell them where you are and where you need to get to and they will help you find the best stops and trains/buses 801-RIDE-UTA (743-3882) or Toll Free: 1-888-RIDE-UTA (743-3882) ​


Where is the Community Writing Center?

This is located in Suite #8 in the Library Shops on the east side of the library square just outside of the Main Library.

Are you still recycling lightbulbs?

No - please take burnt out bulbs across the street to the City and County Building - there is a blue bin inside for recycling.


Where is the SLCC - Library Square campus?

It is across the street from the library - near Charlie Chow's restaurant on 4th South. Says "Fashion Institute" on it.

Is there a mail box around?

The closest mailbox can be found on 300 East and the corner of 600 South. There is also a UPS and FEDEX box near by the postal box.

Where can I find a name on the Celebration of Life monument?

Go to: www.idslife.org/donor-family-services/donor-monument/heroes and at the bottom of the page choose the search option [last name, donor type or view all donors] and submit your query.
