I currently work at Broome Street Academy Charter High School in Manhattan as the Senior Operations Coordinator. Broome Street Academy is a new charter high school that gives preference to youth at risk of academic failure - especially those in foster care or in the child welfare system - preparing them to graduate with a Regents diploma through a rigorous and diverse curriculum grounded in the principles of positive youth development.
I graduated from Vassar College in 2011 with a major in Economics and a minor in Educational Studies. I enjoy traveling, listening to music, swimming, and spending time with my friends and family. My interest in education grew from my Issues in Contemporary Education course, in which we were able to critically analyze the school system and how the standardization of curriculum has led to stressed students with little motivation for success.
I never before had the opportunity to examine education from a critical perspective; doing so allowed me to recognize many of the injustices within schools.
In being an educator, I want to be a resource for all students by providing an engaging, relevant curriculum.
I hope that from my portfolio you learn about my goal as an educator: promoting social justice by working toward the success of all students.
