2025.10.21: Xiaoming's manuscript, "Elucidating the growth and shape evolution mechanisms of gold decahedral nanocrystals by in situ liquid cell transmission electron microscopy," was accepted by ACS Nano. This may be our group's final paper focusing on LCTEM. Congratulations to Xiaoming!

2025.08.26: Qian and Sujuan's work, "Foundations of Atomic Layer Deposition of HfO2 on Carbon Nanotubes: From Process Window Verification to A Comparative Study on Networked and Aligned Architectures," was accepted by Applied Surface Science. This work was primarily based on Qian's master's thesis at Xiangtan University and further optimized by Sujuan. Congratulations!

2025.06.25: Boxiang's paper, "Influence of Beam Size, Landing Energy, and Charging Effects on the Apparent Diameter of Substrate-Supported Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes in Scanning Electron Microscopy Imaging," was accepted by Microscopy and Microanalysis. Today also marks Boxiang's onboarding day at CIQTEK. What a fantastic gift!

2025.12.08: Congratulations to Xiang, who successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis, "Microscopic analysis of passivation degradation mechanisms in high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells," coordinated largely by Prof. Deren Yang and Prof. Xuegong Yu. This represents our final involved Ph.D. thesis in silicon photovoltaics. We extend our greatest thanks to Profs. Yang and Yu for the wonderful collaborative journey.

2025.05.17: Xiangtao successfully defended his master's thesis focusing on optimized TEM sample preparation for A-CNT FET analysis. This marks the beginning of the largest and most fruitful graduation season for our group since 2011, with up to 11 members (2 postdocs, 6 Ph.D. students, and 3 master's/visiting students) moving on to their next chapters. It has been incredibly enjoyable working with you all!
2025.09.17 - 09.19: Our group attended the Nature Conference on Low-Dimensional Electronics, organized by the School of Electronics at Peking University. It was an excellent opportunity to catch up on state-of-the-art developments in 2D electronics.
2025.06.14: Sujuan, Huimin, Haozhe, Bing, and Yuanfang traveled to Kyoto, Japan, to attend the NT25 conference.
2025.05.28 - 05.30: Dr. Jin attended the International Symposia for Semiconductor Technology and Characterization alongside the Korean Microscopy Society Spring Meeting at Yonsei University in Seoul. It was wonderful to reunite with old friends and catch up on the progress of former visiting students.
2025.05.24: Prof. Jianwen Zhao from SINANO, CAS, visited our group and delivered an insightful talk on the development and application of CNT-based inks and printed electronics.
2025.05.22 - 05.24: We hosted a mini-workshop focused on "Challenges of A-CNTs based CMOS: State of the Art and Future." It was exciting to reunite with our longtime colleague, Prof. Gang Zhang, who has recently relocated to Jiaxing, Zhejiang.
2025.05.09 - 05.12: We attended the 1st National Conference on Surface and Interfaces Science of the Chinese Chemical Society in Chengdu, Sichuan. Ming, Bo, and Dr. Jin participated in the Electron Microscopy Division's lunch seminar on 4D STEM, alongside the Carbon Nanoelectronics sessions.

Through your continued persistence and hard work, we finally made it (a smooth transition of group research direction). 2024.10.02, Haozhe's contributed paper entitled Scaling of N-type FETs based on aligned carbon nanotube arrays was published on ACS AMI. Congratulations. This work was coordinated by Prof. Zhiyong Zhang@PKU. Stability of N-type A-CNT FETs seems to be challenging issue, due to ease-to-oxidize feature of the complied low-work function contact metal, i.e. scandium. This issue is even more serous at reduced contact/gate lengthfor advanced node A-CNT FETs.

20210127, Congratulations to Fenfa and Zhangru, whose manuscript on revealing the pristine edge structures and the associated spontaneous edge reconstruction in atomically thin black phosphorus via in situ HRTEM was accepted by Nanoscale. This work was done in collaboration with Dr. Jingsi Qiao at NUS, Prof. Wei Ji @ Renmin University of China, and Prof. Rongjun Xie @ Xiamen University. This work is probably also a mark to temporally suspend any further TEM/STEM study on 2D BP materials in my group, as we have been suffering and somehow exhausting from a couple of really challenging issues, such as sample preparation (to achieve monolayer), too much beam damage (damage rate is so high), and the limited spatial resolution (the neighboring P-P is not resolvable). All these issues have over-burdened Zhangru and Fenfa for a long period, particularly given the fact that we actually do not have enough suitable tools to work on this material based on the currently available EM facilities in our center. Hopefully, one day we could move back to this 2D materials with better tools and techniques. Thanks again, Fenfa (to be Dr. Yao soon) and Dr. Zhangru Xiao again, for your continuing efforts and your trust. Congratulations anyway!

It was really a great conference with lots of vacillating lectures, perspective for the future development of electron microscopy. We got this chance to meet with many of our friends, and make new friends as well. Danhui's contributed paper on the optoelectronics devices of In2Se3 with Dr. Zheng Liu's group in NTU appeared on-line on Nano Letters, where he was listed as an equally contributed author of this paper.

Yingying's paper on revealing the growth dynamics of noble metal nanocrystals was accepted and published on J. Mater. Chem. A. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Hui Zhang's group @Zhejiang Univ.
Wanglin's paper on studying the anisotropic behaviors of few-layer black phosphorus by TEM, angle-resolved Raman and electronic transport was published on APL. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Zhiyong Zhang's group @Peking University.

Summer vacation of 2015. Unfortunately, we had big problems with both two aberration corrected microscopes in the CEM, it was really hard time for us.

Mr. Guomin Zhu, the first master student from our group, passed his thesis defense. Congratulations, well done! He is going to be a Ph.D. candidate in University of Washington, USA, continuing working on liquid-cell EM.
2015.04.27 Prof. Haim Bau from U. Penn visited us, and delivered a talk on liquid-cell TEM focused on the semi-quantitative analysis of beam-water interactions.
Prof. Sumio Iijima from Meijo University Japan visited us, and kindly shared with us his research experience on electron microscopy and nanocarbon.
Profs. Ziyou Li from Birmingham Univ. and Jun Yuan from University of York visited us, and delivered a few seminars and group discussions on nano-alloys, defects in 2D materials etc. During his stay, Jun was also lecturing on a graduate-level course "Electron microscopy for materials science".
Dr. Fang Lin, an expert on quantitative (S)TEM and a long-term collaborator visited us, and kindly gave a seminar on imaging processing.
Congratulations to Guomin, who just passed his mater degree defense. Guomin is the first guy who got the Master degree from this group, and is going to pursue his Ph.D in Washington Univ. this summer
