Steps for Printing of Name
1. Recognizing
2. Tracing - Print your child's name and have them trace over each letter with a
pencil/marker/crayon/etc. or their finger.
3. Writing- Print your child's name and have them try to print it below on their own.
At this age, children should always have a visual to look at. This will help with
letter formation.
Here are a few tips for at home:
Always print your child's name with the first letter capital and the others lower case.
Always have them print their name on the upper left-hand side of the paper. This will usually prevent them from printing it backwards.
Help your child hold the pencil correctly.
Say the letters with your child as they print them.
Many children cannot grip a pencil and therefore have difficulty printing. This is due to weak fine motor skills. Check out the tips for for strengthening these skills under the fine motor link.
Name activities:
Label items with your child's name.
Ask and say the letters in your child's name.
Write each letter of you child's name on a card. Then have them put the letters in order.
