Memento Post-Doc

1/2 Post-Doc position at the University of Macau/China

A 3-year half time post-doc position is available within the project: Modelling Parameters of Cognitive Efforts in Translation Production at the University of Macau/China.

The main task of this position consists in implementing and testing a computational framework for modeling human translation processes, that are suited to explain and predict keystrokes and gaze data of translators and post-editors. The aim is to enhance our knowledge about the structure of the underlying cognitive mechanisms in the human mind. The computational model will be trained and tested on a large data base of available translation process data, the TPR-DB, which will be further extended by several project partners world-wide. It is therefore expected that the prospective candidate also gets involved in the maintenance and extension of this database and to further enhance its browser-based front-end.

The position will start around 1st of January 2018 (or shortly after). Physical presence in Macau is required at least for 6 weeks every year (four-weeks boot camp, plus preparation phase) to support and help coordinate approximately 20-30 international researchers and students to participate in a boot-camp (see below). The candidate should also synchronize and integrate the work of the international project partners throughout the year. We are looking for a passionate and committed, independently working candidate with programming knowledge, a background in machine learning (e.g. neural networks, HMMs or similar), and desirably also experience in web programming and translation process research. Remuneration is approximately 160.000 MOP (ca. 17000 Euro) per year. There is also a budget for conference participation.
