Remember to give your landlord adequate notice that you will not be renewing your lease. Try to schedule your move for a weekend; the parking lot will probably be less busy then. You may borrow a handtruck to help move your boxes more efficiently. It is best to arrange this in advance with the property manager, or with Luis (housekeeping staff). Please do not prop open the door to the building and then leave it unattended.
If you have any items in good condition you wish to sell or give away, try posting a notice to our Center Court Facebook Group or on the lobby bulletin board. Incoming residents may be thrilled to be able to outfit their apartments so easily. Before discarding any usable items, talk to Luis. He may be able to find them a good home. Also consider donating to IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services) or Goodwill Industries .
If you have furniture or similar bulky items to discard, please do not leave them in the parking lot. These items will not be taken by our waste management company. You may be able to arrange with Luis to dispose of them for a reasonable fee (sucuenito@gmail.com).
Lastly, remember to tell the post office your forwarding address. Our mail carrier has sometimes continued to fill a mailbox for three months before realizing the tenant is never coming back.
If you have any questions or need help with anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
