Set in the future, in a United States divided by war, the Colonies and the Republic are both trying to gain control and unify the country again. Regular citizens living in the Republic face harsh laws and terrible living conditions, including starvation and the Plague. The story is told from two different points of view: Day and June. Both are physically and intellectually gifted teenagers and make great adversaries. June is the Republic's best soldier and will soon graduate from their training academy and join her brother in the war against the Colonies. Ever since Day was rejected from the training academy and left to fend for himself at a very young age, he has been fighting against the unfair laws of the Republic and has developed cult status as a hero of the lower class. Both are fighting for causes they are willing to die for. Who will win? When these two lives cross paths, the world will never be the same. Action, romance, and intrigue all combine to make this an exciting story that moves quickly.I love dystopia novels and this is one of my new favorite series. I think it might even be better than Hunger Games, but still behind the Divergent trilogy. I read and loved Prodigy, the second book in the series, and Champion, the final book will be out this winter. I'm sure the movie will be coming soon!
