(A) Leadership Experience

[March 2019 – present] Director of Linguistic Services at Unbabel Lda. (Lisbon, Portugal)

I joined Unbabel in March 2019 as Director of Linguistic Services. My team is in charge of establishing stable and escalable quality processes for quality assessment, control and assurance across products and suctomers.

[Sept. 2007 – July 2008] Operations Manager. CILLERO & DE MOTTA, S.L. Zaragoza, Spain.

I started as an in-house translator, proofreader and project manager and was promoted to Operations Manager in September 2008. Besides translation, proofreading and DTP task, as an Operations Manager I was in charge of the daily office management, the coordination of internal and external resources, translation and localisation project management, cost controlling and other associated managerial tasks.

(B) Research Experience

[May 2017 – March 2019] Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University (Dublin, Ireland)

I was granted an MSCA fellowship as experienced researcher within the EDGE COFUND Research Fellowship Programme. During my fellowship I investigated Machine Translation as a writing aid for researchers in specialised domains. I also collaborated with the INTERACT project both as an experienced researcher and as project manager.

[October 2016 – April 2017] Postdoctoral researcher at ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University (Dublin, Ireland)

I worked with Dr. Sharon O'Brien in a project investigating human factors in Machine Translation and assisted as a project manager of the INTERACT project.

[April 2015 – September 2016] Postdoctoral researcher in Machine Translation. Hermes Traducciones. Madrid, Spain.

  • Marie Curie Experienced Researcher

My job was to investigate on the implementation and evaluation (including user aspects) of the improved SMT, EBMT and TM prototypes proposed in the EXPERT project.

[May 2011 – April 2015] Researcher. UNIVERSITY OF BERGEN. Bergen, Norway.

  • Researcher in linguistic infrastructure projects (April 2014 – April 2015)

I worked in the research infrastructure projects DASISH, CLARINO, INESS and NordStore. My work focuses primarily on the description and cataloguing of Language Resources and Tools (LRT) with metadata, and licensing and IPR issues for LRT.

  • Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher and PhD Candidate (May 2011 – Nov. 2014)

I worked on several topics related to my PhD within Natural Language Processing: Corpus compilation and encoding, Part-of-Speech taggers evaluation, Machine Translation experiments, German nominal compounds and their translations into Spanish, and compound splitting.

[2005 – 2010] Researcher. INSTITUTE FOR APPLIED LINGUISTICS. POMPEU FABRA UNIVERSITY. Barcelona, Spain.

  • [Sept. 2008 – Aug. 2010] I worked in the European projects CLARIN (Common Language Resources Infrastructure) and FLaReNet (Fostering Language Resources Network). I was responsible for surveying available tools and resources for different languages, as well as creating a metadata set for their description. I was also responsible for a survey of language resources and automatic acquisition techniques.
  • [May 2006 – Jan. 2007] I worked in the TACOC project, a project for Open Code Machine Translation for Catalan. I was in charge of developing transfer dictionaries for Catalan -- English.
  • [Feb. – June 2005] I worked in the European project LIRICS (Linguistic Infrastructure for Interoperable Resources and Systems). I was responsible for a survey about available treebanks and their annotation schemes and granularity.

[Aug. 2003 – April 2004] Research Assistant. UNIVERSITY OF TÜBINGEN. Tübingen, Germany

I worked in the project TELOS (Telemedia Language Training Project). I was responsible for translating texts from German and English into Spanish and for programming and designing a Spanish teaching and learning method in CD-Rom.

I have worked for several translation agencies, publishing companies and direct clients. My working languages are German, English, French, Catalan and Spanish.

I was in charge of proofreading machine translated texts into German.
