The Integrative Cardiopulmonary Physiology Lab is a 600 sq ft laboratory on the second floor of the Biological Sciences building at NAU. The primary focus of the laboratory is respiratory physiology with an emphasis on mechanics though we are also interested in the physiology of moderate altitude.
Equipment:
- Marquette respiratory mass spec (MGA)
- AEI Technology O2 and CO2 analyzers
- Hans Rudolph pneumotachographs
- Custom made Honeywell pressure transducers
- Radiometer OSM3 Co-oximeter
What can we measure:
At present we are able to make various measures of respiratory mechanics including static compliance (lung, chest wall, total system), the work and power of breathing, MIP and MEP, and construct FVLs. Likewise, we can measure the hypoxic ventilatory response and measure total hemoglobin mass using CO rebreathing.
