COVID-19 Update

As you know, the novel COVID-19 virus has brought many changes to our world; many things we know and many remain a mystery.

For these reasons, it is with great sadness I am informing you that the Yacht Club of Cape St Claire and the Youth Sailing Program will not be holding sailing sessions at the Lake Claire Beach this year.

After much discussion and consideration, we could not come up with a workable plan that would keep all participants safe from the virus and maintain the high level of sailing instruction that this community has come to expect. We have great expectations that the world will be a safer place next year and we can resume at that time.

None of the checks that were submitted have been deposited and our plan is to shred them. If you would like to have us send the check back to you please let us know.

Also, the instructors are in the process of collecting and developing sailing-related activities and resources that your family may use to learn new skills and maintain what has already been learned.

If you have any questions about the activities or the sailing program in general, please feel free to respond to this message or email the Director, Kristen Sloskey, at We will happily and promptly respond to all inquiries.

Finally, please consider sending a new check for $45 to maintain your membership in the Yacht Club. Without income from the Youth Sailing Program, this will be a very lean year. An application for Yacht Club membership can be found here:

The Yacht Club is still planning to have events once the State of Maryland reaches a safe reopening level.

Program Information

Our program is designed to teach the fundamentals of sailing, whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor. Sailing is a recreational as well as a competitive sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

The purpose of the summer youth sailing program is to provide a safe instructional environment for an enjoyable summer of learning how to sail. At the end of the summer, each junior sailor will receive a certificate of completion and a lifetime of friends and memories.

All the YCCSC Youth Sailing Program instructors are at least 18 years of age and are US Sailing Level I Instructor Certified or actively pursuing US Sailing Level I certification.

All Instructors and assistants hold current First Aid/CPR cards. The staff employ 5 motorized boats for instruction and safety.

Classes are sailed in program-owned 420s (a 14’ sloop-rigged sailboat for 2-3 young sailors) or in Vanguard and Optimist prams, designed for one or two small youths.
