Our club, its members, and its volunteers are covered by a general liability and participant accident policy provided by American Specialty Insurance that has been created specifically for members and clubs that are affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists. Here are some guidelines about these two policies:
The general liability policy covers defense costs and damages up to $1,000,000 if someone decides to sue the club, its members, or volunteers for negligence that contributed to an accident during a covered club activity.
A covered club activity includes recreation bicycle rides that are organized, conducted, and supervised by an insured club and involve League (of American Bicyclists) club members and first-time invited guests. Club meetings, conventional fundraisers, and time trials are also considered covered activities.
A time trial is an individual timing activity. Time trials involving racing between individuals are excluded.
Racing is excluded. For the purposes of this policy, racing means an activity in which individuals are engaged in direct, speed competition with other riders. An activity that includes a timed element, such as a designated time for completion or an individual being timed for personal best, does not, in itself, constitute racing
The participant accident policy acts like secondary medical insurance for club members if they are injured while participating in regularly scheduled club rides and events. This policy will cover only bills that are not covered by primary insurance (such as a co-pay). If the injured club member has no primary medical insurance, they may file a claim under this policy to cover medical costs up to the $10,000 limit.
Each club member must sign the insurance waiver form attached below before participating in a club activity (such as a group ride). You will only need to sign the waiver once and submit it to a club officer for record-keeping. First-time riders should be encouraged to sign a waiver as well. Copies of these forms are also available at Fit to be Tri’d in Northfield.

Paper forms are available at their website (page 6&7 of http://www.amerspec.com/lab/packet.pdf) or electronic forms can be filled out online (https://appsrv4.amerspec.com/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.new_instance?p_moduleid=21219266331).
