Problem:
When you install aftermarket exhaust on your Busa, it is necessary to remove and/or block off the tubes coming from the pair valve to the cylinder head, or your bike will backfire like crazy. There are several ways to accomplish this, including:
1. Cut the tubes near the head, crimp them, and bend them over (not a good way, but it works).
2. Remove the tubes and the pair valve, then plug the holes in the head with self tapping screws. I believe that a #12x1/2" screw works. I used the self tapping screw method the first time I blocked mine off, but I also put bronze washers under the screw heads and used a little Permatex Ultra Copper.
3. Buy block-off plates...$20-30.
4. Make block-off plates.
On my current setup, I chose to make a set of block off plates and the gaskets to go with them.
Materials/ Tools Needed:
- Approx 8" of 3/16" x 9/16" aluminum
- Gasket material (from auto parts store)
- Caliper
- 1/4" drill
- Hole punch for gasket
Instructions:
For the aluminum, I have included a dimensional drawing. Basically, you will have to cut 4 pieces to the given length and then drill the holes in the locations. How good of a job and how precise you want to be is totally up to you. For the gaskets, you basically duplicate the size of the block and punch out the hole locations. All of this is not as easy as it sounds, but it can be done with basic hand tools. However, the better the tools, the better the result.
Dimensions:
The dimensions provided below are given in fractions, but if you have some basic math skills, you can easily convert them their decimal equivalents ;-)
