In 1815, a group of pioneer families moved from upstate New York into Sergeant Township (later to become Norwich Township) south of Smethport in McKean County, Pennsylvania. Among those families were the Burdicks, Colegroves, Wolcotts and the husband of Sophronia Wolcott, Isaac Burlingame. The Burlingames in America are descended from Roger Burlingame who came from England to Boston Harbor on May 10, 1650. Roger was an early settler in New London and Providence, Rhode Island. His descendants settled in Connecticut, upstate New York and Isaac Burlingame moved from New Berlin, New York into McKean County.
This website was created to trace the history of the early Burlingames in America back to their roots in East Anglia and the County of Norfolk - near Norwich, England. It is also is intended to record the history of the McKean County descendants of Isaac and Sophronia Burlingame.
