Burlingames in America
Since Roger Burlingame's arrival at Boston Harbor in 1650, his descendants have helped to shape the flow of American history. Burlingame descendants moved westward from Rhode Island, served in every major war, pioneered many towns, and worked as farmers, laborers, inventors, ministers, and educators. And one, Anson Burlingame, was even a statesman and diplomat.
Several active websites provide resources for family history research. One that has a search feature is http://genforum.genealogy.com/burlingame/.
Another site was created by Mike Gifford: http://www.giffords.org/genealogy/burlingame/index.htm
Burlingames in McKean County are also chronicled in the excellent online school history project created by Smethport teacher and mayor, Ross Porter http://www.smethporthistory.org/.
