What Is A Spirit Rock?
The Spirit Rock is a fun way to spread any kind of positive message. Parents, students and staff have the opportunity to "Rent the Rock" to recognize a student's birthday, show school spirit, thank or recognize a teacher or staff member, congratulatory events, etc. It is a great way to spread positive messages and increase excitement in our community!
100% of your donation goes to BREA. Payments must be made at the time of sign up via credit card through MySchoolBucks.
How can I rent the rock?
It’s simple, just go click and reserve the actual date you want through the Sign-Up Genius. Rock reservations are on a first come, first serve basis so make your reservations NOW!! If you would like your message to stay up longer, please rent multiple days. This year, the team will be updating the rock with student messaging when the rock is not rented.
What supplies do I need?
You will typically need two cans of spray paint for the base coat and additional paint for your design. For more intricate designs, craft paint, foam brushes and even stencils work great.
Make sure to bring paper towels to wipe any drips.
Plastic or paper to cover the ground cover while you paint.
Bring a cup of water if you are using a paintbrush.
Wearing rubber gloves will help keep your hands clean.
How do I paint the rock?
You will probably need to spray it a few times for complete coverage. Once you have the base coat done, use chalk to sketch out your design. Try to do large shapes so that it’s easy to see from the road and so that you can use spray paint for most of it. Spray paint your large areas. If you mess up, use your base coat color to fix the mistake. For more detailed areas, use a can/tube of paint and a paintbrush. While outdoor latex is best, regular artists acrylic seems to work well too (even in rain).
Please clean up all trash after you are finished. Have fun and post photos to our Facebook page!
Please note that profanity and political messages are NOT permitted. We reserve the right to paint over inappropriate messages.
What if the weather is bad?
The rock can be towel dried and the paint will adhere even in the rain or snow if you want to brave the elements. If painting in the rain or snow is not your thing, revisit the calendar and pick the next available date.
Can BREA paint the rock for me?
BREA is not responsible for painting the rock. You can find someone to paint it for you, but painting the rock is fun, and we are sure that no matter what you do, the person you are painting it for will love it.
If you're really struggling, BREA would consider painting the rock in exchange for a donation.
What if I'm painting the rock and someone shows up thinking they reserved it?
If this happens, please double check the sign-up and if it's a true scheduling error, please contact BuffaloRidgeBREA@gmail.com.
