ADVANCEMENT
On January 1, 2023, minor modifications to the Scouts BSA requirements for the ranks of Scout through Life took effect. In addition, beginning July 1, 2022, the Citizenship in Society merit badge becomes required for the rank of Eagle.
If you have questions on rank advancement, please speak with Troop 9 Advancement Chair Frank Cornelius.
MERIT BADGES
Troop 9 has Merit Badge Counselors available for a variety of merit badges that the troop offers. A list of available counselors will be available at each meeting. BSA rules prohibit posting counselor contact information on the Internet. If you are interested in working on a merit badge that's not listed, talk to Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Coordinator Kristy Head.
BSA currently offers over 135 merit badges, 30 awards, and four honor awards for boys scouts. Along with the badges and awards, boy scouts also earn ranks advancements up to the highest rank, Eagle Scout. Please remember that rank advancement and merit badge requirements may NOT be accurate in a Scout Handbook or merit badge pamphlet, as they are always changing. The ONLY TWO PLACES where requirements are accurate and up-to-date are in Scoutbook and on the BSA website at: https://www.scouting.org/programs/boy-scouts/advancement-and-awards/. Using the workbooks for rank and merit badges also ensures you are using the latest requirements.Â
For all the latest requirements always check the BSA website or see the requirements listed in Scoutbook.
