Ground motion simulations of the 14 November 2016 Mw7.8 Kaikoura earthquake

Ground motion simulations of Alpine Fault earthquakes

Ground motion simulations of the 4 September 2010 Darfield and 22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquakes

Below are two videos of the simulated ground motion intensity over the Canterbury region during the Darfield and Christchurch earthquakes. The simulations were produced in Sept 2015, and utilize v1.61 of the Canterbury Velocity Model. The videos will be updated as further advances are made.

22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquake

First-hand experience of the Canterbury, New Zealand and Tohoku, Japan Earthquakes

This video is an 'extended interview' of Dr. Brendon Bradley, filmed by the Australian Broadcasting Companies "Catalyst" documentary channel, about the Canterbury and Japan Earthquakes. The full ABC documentary can be downloaded here.

Dynamics-in-action: Active-source vibration testing with TRex in Christchurch

These short videos illustrate the active-source vibration testing performed using the world's largest triaxial seismic vibration truck, TRex, in Liquefaction-damaged areas of Christchurch in March 2013. The vibrations are clearly visible in the nearby stream and illustrate the mode shapes of the water surface.
