How many are left in the UK?

Utilizing the website How Many are Left? we can find out a good idea of how many 4th gens are still in the United Kingdom.

The 4th gen Camaro in the UK

The Camaro was first launched for sale in the UK in 1998. The steering wheel remained on the left side, and it could be had in V6 coupe, V6 convertible, and Z28 coupe forms only. Overall, it did not sell well. You can read a rather negative, detailed review here. I believe there were only 11 Chevrolet dealers in the UK, and due to poor sales, they weren't exported to the UK after 2001. (This information is terribly difficult to research, so this information could have a few errors).

Perhaps the majority of 4th gen Camaros in the UK today are actually ones that were imported from Japan, Europe, and America as used cars. Looking at photos of what few have come up for sale in the UK is interesting, yet difficult, because the sellers often do not mention where their car was originally sold as a new car.

What is this page?

How Many Left? is a database and search engine of statistics about cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles registered in the United Kingdom that Olly Smith created. Data comes directly from the Department for Transport and is regularly updated.

I wish something like this existed in the US, but to my knowledge it doesn't. If you know how I can access data like this for the US for free... EMAIL ME.

Legend/Key

I'm not a UK resident, so my understanding of the legal requirements are minimal. However, here's how I understand the data.

Licensed means that the car is licensed and allowed to drive on the road.

SORN stands for "Statutory Off Road Notification" which is a fancy way of saying that the vehicle is not going to be used on public roads, and the owner wants to stop taxing and insuring it. This includes cars that are not running, cars being stored in garages, being used exclusively on private land, or being broken down for parts before being scrapped.

Camaro Data for the UK

The data in the tables I've made below is from 2020 Q4. I don't intend on updating this data, as the display of this data is mostly for my own curiosity and amusement. You can, however, see the most current data on Olly's website using the links below.

Note: the most common error that crops up in the data is vehicles that don't have exactly the correct model variant recorded on their V5 registration document. For example, a Camaro Z28 might only have Camaro recorded on its V5. This can lead to some model variants appearing to be rarer than they actually are.
