Art
ARTISTS BIO: Boyd Owens
I started doing serious artwork in high school after taking several art classes on drawing. My early work was done in pencil and charcoal on paper and was done just for enjoyment. In collage I took a non-credit oil painting class and oil painting became my main media.
My early art career was filled with Impressionist landscapes and fantasy art. Over the years my work shifted more towards realism. In 2008 I became fascinated with the Hyper-Realism movement and started putting my efforts in that style creating a number of works that everyone mistook to photographs. I also started selling my art. In early 2010 I was given a set of oil pastels and I fell in love with the vibrant colors they offered. I evolved yet again to splitting my efforts between Oils, Pastels and Charcoal.
Today about 70% of my work is in oils, 20% in Pastels and the balance in Charcoal and other mediums. Landscapes, still lives, fantasy and some portraiture are all represented in my recent years. Recent efforts have taken me into religious themes.
I now feel comfortable saying I am an award-winning artist, with an Honorable Mention in the 2019 Grundy Art Show in Bristol PA. I sell my works locally in art fairs, community festivals and through fund raising sales held by non-profits that I support. I am a member of The Artists of Bristol on the Delaware.
