ARTISTS BIO: Boyd Owens
I am Boyd Owens, an artist with a passion for diverse mediums, including oil paint, pastels, and charcoal. My artistic journey began in high school, where I discovered my love for drawing through various art classes. Initially, I enjoyed creating with pencil and charcoal on paper simply for the joy of self-expression.
During college, my focus shifted when I enrolled in a non-credit oil painting class. This marked the beginning of my deep connection with oil painting, eventually becoming my primary medium. Influenced by artists like William Henry Chandler, Bob Ross, Mary Cassette, Vincent Van Gogh, and Edward Turner, I explored Impressionist landscapes and fantasy art in my early career.
In 2008, I took a new artistic direction, captivated by the Hyper-Realism movement. This transition resulted in a series of works that often left viewers mistaken, thinking they were photographs. Alongside this evolution, I embraced the vibrant world of oil pastels in 2010, adding a burst of color to my repertoire. This marked yet another transformation, with me now dividing my creative efforts among oils, pastels, and charcoal, each medium serving a unique purpose.
Presently, approximately 70% of my portfolio comprises oil paintings, 20% is dedicated to pastels, and the remaining balance encompasses charcoal and various other mediums. My recent works showcase a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, still lifes, fantasy pieces, and even portraiture. Notably, I have ventured into religious themes, expanding the depth and diversity of my artistic expression.
I proudly identify as an award-winning artist, receiving an Honorable Mention at the 2019 Grundy Art Show in Bristol, PA. My works are not only celebrated in prestigious art shows but are also accessible to the local community through art fairs, community festivals, and fundraising sales organized by non-profits I actively support. As a dedicated member of The Artists of Bristol on the Delaware, I continue to contribute to the flourishing art scene, leaving an indelible mark with my versatile and captivating creations.
