This page covers the work interests, study and volunteer work that I do. It provides a place for me to share my efforts with others. Over the years, I have written many articles, books, or chapters on a wide range of subjects that have varied over the years. Tabs are by general subject area. Although my background and professional career is based around mechanical engineering, I have worked mostly for electronics companies and have learned a lot about electronics, computers, hacking & security, over the years. I have also worked in many different roles at companies, Quality, Design Engineering, Manufacturing engineering and Management, Materials, Operations, Physical & Computer security and most recently Analytics and Data mining.
I love the outdoors and consider science to be a hobby. All three of my boys have been active in Boy Scouts and this has helped keep me active and involved in many different things. My volunteer work over the last 30 years includes work for the following organizations. ( In no particular order)

In 1995 I started writing books and articles in subjects that I was interested in. I typically made three attempts to publish and after that simply shared the book for free. This web site has copies of those books and articles that have been written over the years. Please enjoy and send any suggestions or corrections to me at [ BoydEOwens at gmail dot com ] .

2010 IPQC Best Project Competition.
In 2010 a Six Sigma Project that I lead for Motorola was entered into the IPQC (now PEX) Best Project Competition in the Large business Service project category. The project placed 2nd in the competition out of 402 entries from around the world. It was one of the best projects that I ever worked on and I was very proud to lead such a strong team and such a successful project. The slide deck that was presented to the judges is Here and has been approved by Motorola for public release.

I sell my work through local art shows and charity auctions of the non-profits that I support. My most recent award was an honorable mention in the 2019 Grundy Art show.
I am a member of the Artists Of Bristol.
Amateur Science - I have considered science of all types to be a hobby since I was in Junior High School. Activities like my basement chemistry set, Model rocketry, rock collecting, capturing ground squirrels for my next door neighbor (high school biology teacher) to use in hibernation experiments all became a love of science and a life long hobby. This page covers some of things that I do, along with resources, and links for where you can get involved with science as an amateur volunteer, or as they now call us...citizen scientists.
Detecting Online Sexual Predators - This page features some SAS programming work that I did using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to detect Child Sexual Predators on Web message feeds. It is based on work done by previous researchers and I am publishing it because I believe that keeping kids safe is important. I wanted to share what I did so that others trying to develop methods to detect online sexual predators can build on this effort.
FORTRAN 95 For Advanced Analytics - Copies of FORTRAN 95 code that I have written, found, reused, borrowed (with credit) that may be of use to people doing advanced analytics, especially if you are working on supercomputers.
