Membership is open to all band students in grades 8-12 who have successfully participated in their respective high school or middle school band. Prior participation in marching band is not required.
The Marching Band is the most visible part of the band program at BNL due to the number and nature of their performances. The Marching Band performs music of many styles and visual designs that are utilized by the contemporary competitive marching band. Since this is a co-curricular class, grades are issued to BNL High School students and .5 credit is earned for participation. Membership by all band students is encouraged and recommended. All BNL High School students who choose to play in the marching band are expected to play in one of the concert bands or orchestras. Performances include 4-5 home football games, 6-7 marching band contest weekends, 2-3 local parades or community functions and, upon occasion, regional or national parades, festivals, or competitions. Instruction and assessment will include group playing, individual playing and written work. Individual practice outside of class is expected. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is necessary for the highest achievement in a performance group such as this one.
