The original Four-N-Aires quartet was formed in 1960 from members of the Schenectady NY chapter. Members included: Bill Aubin, Leo Maillotte, Al Capuana, and Bill Dubrey.
In the ensuing years the quartet had sixteen personnel changes until the 1974 championship foursome of: Dave White, Gary Glidden, Archie Steen, and Gary Wetherby.
The Four-N-Aires was one of the longest active and most popular quartets in the District, participating in annual shows and competitions from 1960 to retirement in 1978. The quartet appeared on the International stage seven times, its best showing being 28th in 1978.
In 1982 three of the members joined with Pat Gilgallon to form ‘Yesterday Bound’!
Unable to compete in District because of contest rules the quartet competed at International three times; its best performance was 17th in 1985, one of only twelve quartets from NED to achieve a top twenty ranking. The quartet’s last appearance was in 1987.
One of the Four-N-Aires more memorable moments was the appearance at the Expo Theater in Montreal Canada with the International Champions ‘Dealers Choice’ in 1975. The afternoon before the show the two quartets decided to venture down to Old Montreal Square to sing for the public. Not realizing that 1975 was at the height of the separatist movement in Quebec they proceeded to sing to the crowd with some unfavorable responses. The complaint was that we were singing in English instead of French; however the evening show was very well received!
